Evil Dead, different versionens.

I was looking into what was the best version of Evil dead, in it's original 1.33:1 ratio. What I found was really intresting...

The one I looked at was the Elite DVD and LD, from 1999. Also the japanese BEAM Laserdisc from 1994-1995. All three had almost the same PQ:

Elite LD vs Elite DVD vs BEAM LD

Then I looked at the old Japanese LD, Herald videogram, from 1985 and it's a big difference!

Not only is the colors a big difference, the newer LD's/DVD's are zoomed in. I really like the way the old version is.
But there is more.
You maybe have heard about cutting out the lighting hitting the tree scene? If not, look here:

When they are in the basement, maybe 16 min in the movie, Bruce reads the "Book of the dead". The scene ends like this:

And next we see:

In the old version, there are 1-1,5 second of a lightning strikes a tree between the those two scenes. Here is some shots of that.

And it don't stop here:

I could also show what I found about the big difference in color.
I know that the Elite DVD/LD are supervised by Sam, but I wonder why he did go for such a warm color timing:

I feel the older version, with much bluer colors are more scarier and I personally prefer that. But that is may be a personal preference but I think there is something wrong here:

In the old version you can easily see Bruce has a bruise on his cheek, where on the Elite version, it's almost gone!

Some more picture with the difference in color:

There are about 10-15% more info on all sides on the old Japanese LD too.

So even if the newer Elite DVD/LD is sharper and brighter (may be a little to bright?), I prefer the old LD.
