Film Review:
Since Scream came out there seems to be a
little too many of wanna-be-films. Idle Hands is no exception. This film
is definitely trying to grab the same audience that made Scream a
blockbuster hit with the younger crowds. This is no Scream by any means,
but does have a few laughs here and there.
The story does have some originality, although I'm not sure
that it works all that well. Our main character Anton (Devon Sawa) finds
that his parents are dead and as he shows his friends Mick (Seth Green)
and Pnub (Elden Ratliff), his hand starts going out of control and kills
both of them. After he buries his parents and friends in his backyard he finds that his
friends didn't feel like following the light at the end of the tunnel and return as the
undead. They bring the needed comic relief to the film as Anton tries to figure out how to
get control of his possessed hand. On the trail of the demon hand is Debi, played by
Vivica
Fox. She teams up with Anton's neighbor Randy (Jack Noseworthy)
in hopes of finding and killing the demon hand.
The gore effects are on par with the typical horror movies
of today and is the primary reason for the R rating. The gore isn't constant, but enough
to make fans happy.
Without the comic relief of
Seth Green
this movie would be a complete bomb. Not that he really helps all that much but better
than nothing. The only real reason to see this film is for the slight humor it offers.
Bottomline:
If your really desperate for a movie or you really like
Scream
films you might like Idle Hands. Just make sure you see a discount
matinee.
