Lately, the Evil Dead live
again. This rebirth is largely due to all the promotional products
surrounding these films, though the series ended 9 years ago. The
most exploited license is Army of Darkness (primarily because this
more commercial film is easier to license to manufacturers of toys
and collectibles). Over the last few years, several products have
entered the market - including video games, new releases of the
movies on DVD, and action figures.
The first company to make
Evil Dead figures was McFarlane Toys, manufacturers of the extremely
detailed Spawn figures. Then Spencer Gifts to created a statuette of
Ash effigy, the main hero of the cult series. This past June,
Sideshow Toys put out a new pair of figures based on Army of
Darkness: Ash and Evil Ash. While it's true they're as much dolls as
they are action figures, these dolls are quite superior to Barbie!
Sideshow Toys has also announced another upcoming Ash figure decked
out in his S-Mart clerk costume (due out winter 2002-2003).
