Here are a selection of photos from the earliest days of EvilDeadChainsaws.com, starting even before the website was online, ranging roughly from May 2005 to July 2006, so 15 years ago as of writing! The only camera I had at the time was a Sony MiniDV Camcorder which took 640x480px stills (although the first two are 35mm), so the quality isn't brilliant, but these are the photos which document the beginnings of EDC. To take the proper website photos, I had to borrow a digital camera from a friend, up until I eventually bought my own in July 2006
You have photos of; buying and dismantling my first HomeLiteXL chainsaw, prototyping the Workshed model saw, moulding the body sections and working through ideas, the first completed workshed chainsaw, building the workshed background, prototyping the Cabin model saw, and starting work on the (unused) Cabin model saw background.
Prototyping my very first chainsaw from scratch took four months, from dismantling the real Homelite XL, to having an assembled Workshed model chainsaw. While I knew some of the basic skills I needed, like mouldmaking which I learned at work, much of what I was doing was utter guesswork, with some research and cobbling together advice from other people who knew far more than I did back then. Some of the ideas I had, didn't really work, and I was working from DVD screenshots, so some of the saw's finer details aren't quite accurate either.
Once the moulds were made, the process was set in stone to an extent (unless I was to re-make my moulds), so if I later found out something wasn't strong enough, I was left trying to work something out using the casting which takes far longer and is more restrictive, than starting the moulds from scratch. That's something I'll cover in part 2.
